Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) is intensifying cooperation with relevant institutions of Uzbekistan in the framework of projects and technical assistance programs in the fields of economy, culture, education, healthcare, environmental protection, tourism and a number of other socially significant areas, Trend reports citing the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and Chairman of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Serkan Kayalar discussed these issues at a meeting held in Ankara on August 6, 2019.

As was noted, TIKA has carried out its activities in Uzbekistan since 1992 implementing economic, trade, technical, educational, social and cultural programs, as well as a number of projects for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Over this period, TIKA has implemented over 800 grant technical assistance projects worth more than $40 million in Uzbekistan. The results of 2019 show that this figure is expected to increase significantly. The appointment of the former TIKA Deputy Chairman Mehmet Surrey Er an Ambassador to Uzbekistan is also seen as a signal that the volume and quality of Turkish technical assistance projects in Uzbekistan will reach a new level.

One of the important TIKA projects in Uzbekistan is the opening of a branch of the Istanbul industrial zone “Gebze”. According to the ministry, its implementation will be a mutually beneficial step for both parties with a long-term effect, creating new conditions for the investment and production activities of Turkish entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan.
