Turkmenistan announces planned rice production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 18

Turkmenistan has planned to produce 82,400 tons of rice this year, Trend reports with reference to the State news Agency of Turkmenistan.

The corresponding decree was signed By President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

This decree also aims to reform the agricultural sector, as well as increase the volume of agricultural products in Turkmenistan.

According to the plan, 82,400 tons of rice should be produced this year. In Dashoguz region, 8,100 hectares of land are allocated for rice, from which 35,000 tons of rice should be collected. In Lebap region, 47,400 tons will be collected from 10,200 hectares of land.

By president’s order, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as the Dashoguz and Lebap regions’ municipal administration have to ensure the production of the planned amount of rice in the Dashoguz region’s Turkmenbashi province and in Lebap region’s Argentinska, Danevska, Cirjevskis, Farab, Satcom, Kalacska, Kodambakkam, Kerkinskoy, Dovletli and Koytendag provinces.

Turkmenistan's agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetables and fruits.
