Uzbekistan increases imports of food products from CIS countries

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 27

Uzbekistan reduced imports of food products from January through June 2020, by 1.9 percent compared to the same period of 2019, to $753.5 million, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan reduced imports from non-CIS countries by 40.3 percent to $161.8 million, and increased imports from CIS countries by 18.9 percent to $591.6 million.

By the end of the first half of this year, the largest volume of food imports fell on cereals and their products - $290.2 million, 4.5 percent more than the same indicator in 2019.

In addition, Uzbekistan increased the purchase of fruit and vegetables by 6.2 percent to $57.5 million during the reporting period, but at the same time reduced imports of sugar products and honey by 6.4 percent, which amounted to $116.7 million for the period from January to June 2020.

Uzbekistan exported $427.2 million worth of fruits and vegetables in the first half of 2020.

Compared to the same period of 2019, the Uzbekistan’s export of vegetables decreased by 34 percent.
