Georgia sees increase in tangerines export

Some 7,000 tons of standard tangerines have already been exported from Georgian Adjara, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Some 300 tons of tangerines were transported from the port of Batumi.

Chairman of the Adjara government Tornike Rizhvadze, together with the minister of agriculture, got acquainted with the export process in the port of Batumi.

"Twice a week, over 300 tons of citrus fruits are sent by ferry. To date, over 7,000 tons of tangerines have been exported from Adjara, and it is planned to export more than 40,000 tons of citrus fruits during the year. It is especially important that all current processing operations required for export are carried out as quickly as possible, without significant delays on the part of exporters. This entire chain must be efficient, fast so that each farmer can receive the planned income," Rizhvadze said.

This year, tangerines were mainly exported to the Russian Federation (899 tons). In addition, exports were also carried out to Ukraine, Moldova, and Kazakhstan.

The harvest of tangerines in Georgia began on November 16.

Harvest forecast - up to 40,000 tons. The tangerine harvest in Georgia this year is small, but the quality has improved.

The appropriate headquarters is working to organize the harvest and placement. Custom tangerines are delivered, processed, controlled, and registered electronically.

Up to 7,000 tons of non-standard tangerines are expected this year.

The volume of exports of tangerines during this period is 138 percent higher than the volume of exports in the same period in 2019, and the value of exports increased by $149,000.
