Iran says limits put on cities positively affects fighting COVID-19

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.7

Trend:

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has requested people to comply to mandatory health protocols that approved by the National Headquarters to Fight Coronavirus, Trend reports via IRNA.

"The implementation of protocols and limitations on 46 cities have led to positive effects," he said. "The limitations are necessary."

"The mortality rate was 500 people per day and there were predictions of more but implementation of limits has reduce the rate to 300 people. We hope to see the situation improve, along with cooperation from people," he said.

"Social distancing and wearing masks should be followed and people must avoid large gatherings, even if the proper dosage of vaccine is provided, people should still follow protocols," he said.

Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread.

Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.

The Islamic Republic only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on Feb. 19.

The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan - which is an international transport hub - began at a fish market in late December 2019.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11 declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
