Azeri Economic Development Minister and Turkish State Minister discussed trade and economic relations expansion

Today Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev met with the delegation headed by Turkish State Minister Aydin Mehmet. Trend reports with reference to MEDs release, at the meeting Babayev, stating friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, underlined the beginning of a new stage of trade and economic relations development and cooperation between the countries.

If in 2005 trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey was $588.8mln, during first half-year 2006 it amounted $329.9mln, up 38.9% over year. At the moment the operations are being performed to bring this amount to $1bn.

В"Turkey today is Azerbaijans main partner in the current regional projects, which can be evidenced by commissioning of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and Turkeys participation in construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelineВ", said minister.

Babayev, speaking of favorable conditions for foreign investments in Azerbaijan, added there are nice opportunities for large Turkish investors.

In turn, Turkish state minister expressed his satisfaction with created conditions for Turkish businessmen in Azerbaijan, boosted by Azeri-Turkish Businessmen Association.

At the meeting, the parties discussed prospects of extending trade and economic relations and stated their confidence in solving mutual problems.
