Donors Confirm Amount of Assistance to Azerbaijan in Fight with Bird Flu

The World Bank (WB) commented on the project in its fight against bird flu in Azerbaijan. We studied the program of measures carried out by other donors American Ditra, International Health Organization, FAO and Japanese Embassy. Recently it was decided which organizations will present training, technical assistance and equipment. Trend reports with reference to the WB Baku Office.

In accordance with the communication funded by the WB, international consultants are expected to arrive in November. In addition, tender documents are prepared for the purchase of veterinary and medical equipment.

WB will direct the unused part of the credit for Technical assistance to the institutional establishment of Azerbaijan (IBTA-2) in amount of SDR 3,560 mln (nearly $5,145 mln) to this project.

Within the project, the WB intends to acquire reagents for the laboratories, to strengthen their material-technical base and to purchase specialized equipment. At the moment the laboratories have been supplied with the equipment purchased through the budget finance and are ready for urgent investigation. The WB representative considers that their activities should be improved.

The second part of the project envisages the strengthening the potential of the Veterinary Service. The project will partly cover the supply of laboratories of the Health Ministry, purchase of equipment and conducting of training sessions.
