Date of Next Monitoring to Discover Bird Flu Fixed

Date of next monitoring to discover bird flu in Azerbaijan was fixed, Trend reports referring to the State Veterinary Service of the Azerbaijan Agriculture Ministry.

The next meeting will begin on January 15 and last for about a week. It will be the first monitoring in 2007, and eights since April 2006.

A special commission, which includes the specialists of the Veterinary Service, as well as the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Zoology and the Hunters Society in Pirallahi Island, Absheron Peninsula, as well as Davachi, Salyan and Lankaran Districts and the national parks along the Caspian Sea coastline. The results of the forthcoming monitoring will be announced on January 16. Since April 2006, the bird flu has not been discovered in Azerbaijan, all veterinary border services are conducting inspections to prevent the penetration of the virus into the Country. The ban on hunting, the sale and use of wild birds, as well as the import of poultry from countries where there has previously been cases of the bird flu' virus, is still in force.
