Turkish energy minister to hold talks in Turkmenistan

Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz arrived in Ashgabat today. The Turkish minister is expected to meet with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov and government figures, an official source said.

He will also participate at the meeting of the inter-governmental Turkmenistan-Turkey commission on economic cooperation. The agreement to launch inter-governmental commission was reached during Turkish president's visit to Ashgabat in December 2007. The previous meeting of the commission was held in Ashgabat in April 2008.

Turkey and Turkmenistan maintain energy, construction and textile cooperation. Business forum will be held as a part of the visit.

Turkey buys Turkmen energy via Iran and is interested in realization of the Nabucco gas pipeline project which will deliver Central Asian gas to Europe via the Caspian Sea and Caucasus.
