Turkmenistan needs more flexible approach in world energy market: President Berdimuhammedov

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec. 4 / corr Trend G.Hasanov /

Turkmenistan must develop more flexible approach in realizing its own hydrocarbon potential taking into account the existing situation in the world energy market.

Turkmen President Gurbagulu Nerdimuhammedov made this statement in a governmental meeting dedicated to the results of his recent official visit to Italy.

Turkmenistan, the world's fourth natural gas producer, is becoming a considerable player in the international consumer market. By the end of the year it is planned to open a route to China and to increase supplies to Iran. Talks are underway to restore the energy flow to Russia. Possibility of assimilating the European and Indian markets is being studied.

Berdimuhammedov underscored that a mutual understanding memorandum signed in Rome with the Italian ENI testifies for European countries' interests in the energy cooperation with Turkmenistan, official Turkmen source said.

"Being loyal to a principle of diversifying the energy transporting routes to world markets, Turkmenistan is for wider international cooperation and win-win efforts to realize new projects in the transport and energy integration and establishment of multi-variant pipeline infrastructure. It meets interests of welfare and sustainable development in the global scale," Berdimuhammedov said.
