Spanish manufacturing company Siemens Gamesa Reneweable Energy (SGRE) may implement different hybrid power generation solutions in Uzbekistan, Steven Pryor, Onshore CEO for North Europe & Middle East Region at Siemens Gamesa, told Trend on Aug. 14.

The company is planning to build a 100-megawatt wind power plant in Zarafshan district of Navoi region, which is estimated to cost $100 million.

The company representative noted that Uzbekistan has technical potential for a range of renewable energies, for which SGRE offers hybrid power solutions, allowing for integration of different renewable power generation assets and storage.

The company is also considering future prospects in Uzbekistan’s alternative energy sector.

“Siemens Gamesa is currently evaluating and following the development in the market closely. Under the right conditions we are supportive of the move towards implementation of renewable energy plants in all of the emerging wind markets,” Pryor said.

It was earlier reported that the first wind power plant in Uzbekistan will be built on the public-private partnership terms.

According to the SGRE representative, however, the company has yet to determine optimal option for operation in Uzbekistan.

Back in 2015, German companies Geo-Net and Intec-Gopa presented a wind atlas reflecting the wind energy potential (WEP) of Uzbekistan. According to the German experts, the country's wind energy resources exceed 520,000 megawatts and 1 billion megawatt-hours of electricity generation per year only by a preliminary conservative assessment.

Based on the atlas, Uzbekenergo identified prospective sites in the Navoi region and in the south of Karakalpakstan for further detailed studies to specify the WEP of these areas.
