Turkmenistan aims to attract foreign investment in the electricity sector

An international exhibition and conference on electric power industry will be held in Ashgabat on September 6-8, 2018, the organizers - the Ministry of Energy and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan said in a statement.

The exhibition will focus on issues of attracting foreign investments into the mentioned industry.

The participants will have the opportunity to get information about the investment climate and prospects for the development of the energy sector of Turkmenistan, the message says.

The exhibition will be attended by representatives of relevant companies and private businesses. Such issues as the modernization of generating and distributing capacities and the energy saving in the power industry of Turkmenistan will also be discussed here.

Earlier it was reported that the total amount of electricity produced in Turkmenistan by 2024 is planned to be brought up to 33 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 27.2 percent more than the amount planned for 2018.

Turkmenistan sells electricity to Afghanistan and Iran. Ashgabat is also studying the prospects of supplies to the markets of the Caucasus, Central and South Asia. In addition, in order to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers of Turkmenistan, it has planned to establish a ring power system. At this stage, there are 13 power plants operating in the country.
