Following the elimination of fire at an oil well at Kazakhstan's Kalamkas field, environmentalists and representatives of the country's Energy Ministry are establishing the damage from the fire, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

Vice-Minister of Energy Magzum Mirzagaliyev has noted that the investigation is still underway, so it is too early to draw conclusions about the environmental situation at the field. The final results will be announced later.

"We are now engaged in the calculation of environmental damage, but it should be noted that according to the data we have today, no serious damage has been caused," he said.

In the morning of March 25, gas-water mixture caught fire at one of the wells at the Kalamkas oil field being developed by Mangistaumunaigas JSC.

The fire covering an area of 900 square meters and reaching the height of 10 meters was extinguished on the fourth day. There are no victims and injured.

Pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 333 (Violation of rules of protection and use of subsoil) of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan has been initiated on the fact of the accident at the field.
