Turkmenistan, Russia to sign memorandum on cooperation in energy sector

Turkmenistan and Russia are preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of energy, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.
The work on the preparation of the draft memorandum was discussed during a videoconference held at the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan.
In particular, it was emphasized that strengthening and diversification of economic ties with Russia, which is one of the country's strategic partners, is a key direction of Turkmenistan's foreign policy.
It was noted that Russia and Turkmenistan have good prospects for interaction and cooperation in the electricity sector, especially taking into account their resource potential and ongoing projects in the field of transit and export of electricity.
The projects in this field include Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission line (TAP), the integration of power system of Central Asia, formation of the common electricity market of the Eurasian Economic Union by 2025 and others.
