Iran to stop importing petrochemical catalysts

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 12

Iran will stop imports of catalysts used in the petrochemical sector by March 21, 2023, Executive Director of Petrochemical Research and Technology Company Majed Daftari said, Trend reports citing Iranian National Petrochemical Company’s website.

The director noted that Iran currently produces 20 out of the 40 types of catalysts available in the petrochemical industry domestically.

"By the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Iran will begin to produce 8 more types of catalysts domestically," he added.

According to Daftari, research is being conducted on the domestic production of the remaining 12 types of catalysts.

In general, 40 types of catalysts worth $270 million were used in Iran's petrochemical sector a year.

Iran produced 36.8 million tons of petrochemicals, during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2021), which is an increase of 3.4 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
