BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 17. Five petrochemical plants will be put into use in Iran by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2024), Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said, Trend reports.

He made the remark at the meeting of the Cabinet of Iran on January 17.

Owji noted that the mentioned petrochemical plants will be launched in Iran's Hamadan, Zanjan, Golestan, Razavi Khorasan, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces.

The minister added that although the construction of these plants started many years ago, it was stopped due to various reasons.

“For example, the plant of the Bouali Sina Petrochemical Company was left in an unknown state for about 20 years. However, recently it was built with an investment of $1 billion,” he said.

Currently, Iran’s petrochemical production capacity is estimated at 92 million tons per year. By the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2024), it is expected to reach 95 million tons.

Meanwhile, Iran produced more than 35 million tons of various petrochemical products in the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023). The figure is expected to reach approximately 78 million tons by the end of the year.
