Initial Date of Restarting Oil Transportation via Baku-Supsa Pipeline Confirmed

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr S. Aliyev / The Azerbaijani Government informed on 3March that the oil transportation through the Baku-Supsa pipeline may be restarted in the second half of 2007 after repair work is completed.

The Azerbaijani International Operating Company (the operator of the pipeline) is currently repairing the 150km-long Georgian section of the pipeline.

Earlier some technical faults were revealed here. The oil from the Chirag oilfield that was earlier transported through the Baku-Supsa pipeline is now transported through the northern pipeline route Baku-Novorossiysk and the railway.

Over the period of January-November 2006, 5,616 mln tons of oil were transported via Baku-Supsa, against 6,329 mln tons in January-November 2005. The transportation via the pipeline was fully stopped in November.
