Azerbaijan sees rise in 2M2021 clearing transactions for small payments

Some 76,000 payment transactions through the system of interbank national settlements had been carried out in Azerbaijan from January through February 2021, Trend reports referring to the statistical report of the country's Central Bank (CBA).

According to the CBA, the number of operations performed under the above system in the reporting period made up 12.4 billion manat ($7.3 billion), which is 10.3 percent less than in 2M2020.

Over 5.7 million transactions were conducted in the amount of 2.2 billion manat ($1.3 billion) through the settlement clearing system for small payments, which reflects a rise in annual circulation by 2.4 percent.

By the late February of this year, banks' receipts through high-speed money transfer systems amounted to 139.9 million manat ($82.3 million), which means a decline of 11.2 percent year-on-year. Some 80,000 transactions were made on non-bank money transfers in the amount of 84.9 million manat ($49.9 million), which is 3.3 percent less than in the same month of last year.

Overall, in the first 2 months of 2021, the turnover on debit and credit cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan made up 2.6 billion manat ($1.5 billion), which is 17.1 percent more than as of late February 2020.
