The National Encyclopedia of Azerbaijan Scientific Center at the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (NAS) held a roundtable on development of national science and technology strategy the NAS said.
Azerbaijani Deputy Minister for Communication and Information Technologies Elmir Valizade and Azerbaijani Deputy Education Minister Elmar Gasimov, as well as officials and employees of the NAS institutes took part in the roundtable.
NAS President Mahmud Karimov spoke about importance of adopting a National Strategy for the Development of Science in Azerbaijan in 2009-2015.
It is important to study the present status of the Azerbaijani science, discuss the reforms in this field, to exchange opinions and take actions to develop this strategy, Karimov said.
Financing is one of the important aspects in this sphere. The science financing plays an important role in research funds. Education of the Azerbaijani younger generation of scientists and definition of the funding mechanism for research and innovation are important prerequisites to achieve success, UNESCO expert Peter Tindermans said. He stated on existence of various methods to develop science.
Tindermans also made a report on demands in the Azerbaijani science, technology and information policy and the Lebanese practice to achieve success.
NAS Institute of Information Technologies Director Rasim Aliguliyev familiarized the UNESCO experts with the real situation of the Azerbaijani science. Aliguliyev proposed to establish a working group on the national strategy issues and to conduct a national conference on the implementation of this strategy.
