The official opening ceremony of the Computing Center of the Institute of Physics of Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences will be held on October 29. It will be connected with the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), Head of the Laboratory for High Energy Physics of the Institute of Physics of Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Govsat Abdinov told Trend .

The project envisages introduction of GRID segment for processing of information, coming from CERN after launching Large Hadron Collider.

Computers installed in 140 institutes of 33 world countries will be involved in data processing.

The system will operate in real time, as one supercomputer.

Special computing centers that will solve specific problems and send the results to the head center of CERN will be established worldwide.

Abdinov said that launch of collider was delayed till November. Today, there are about 300 PCs in the computer center of the institute. Thye will be used in GRID. Computers were provided by CERN.

Computing Center of the Institute is connected to the optic bandwidth of 20 Mbps.

Introduction of GRID segment will allow the institute processing CERN information flow, using resources of participating countries to solve difficult tasks in national interests, for example, carrying out geological studies to reveal energy resources, medicine, etc.
