Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 2 / Trend , H.Valiyev /

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies is considering the appeal of mobile operators Azercell and Azerfon to issue licenses to provide 3G mobile services, the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies, Ali Abbasov told journalists on Nov. 2.

He said operators had been tasked to technically prepare their network to introduce services in the 3G standard.

There will not be any problems in issuing licenses and, according to preliminary data, 3G networks will be fully applied to the country by late 2009, Abbas said.

Under the decision of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers, to obtain a license for 3G service, operators had to submit information about the stages of work on commissioning the network, the types of services provided and on the radius of coverage of the network, on the technical characteristics of equipment, the experience of setting up a pilot zone of 3G, as well as  a conclusion by the State Commission for Radio Frequencies, in accordance with the Azerbaijani law on "Telecommunications".

On Aug. 7, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree to include a paragraph envisaging issuing a license to render 3G services in the list of services that require a special license.
