A total of 9,173 Internet resources have been registered in the national .az domain, WHOIS reports
In December, the number of registered internet resources made up 2.4 percent as compared to a previous month. Some of 8,217 registered websites fell to internet resources registered in the domain on the first level. Some of 516 sites registered in the second level domain fell on com.az and 61 internet resources were registered in the .gov.az state domain zone.
As of Dec. 27 of 2009, the total amount of active domain worldwide made up 113,738,721. Some of 83,954,117 resources have registered in the most populated domain com. Domain net with 12,631,658 resources ranks the second place. Domain .org has ranked to the third place with 7,932,041 resources.
The .az national zone officially began operations on Aug. 25, 1993. Among the post-Soviet countries, Ukraine was the only country, which had its own domain - .ua (1992). The zone .ru was registered on Apr. 7, 1994, and most other domains from the former Soviet countries were registered in the same year.
Registration in the .az domain costs 20 manat and the same amount is to be paid for technical support of the domain.
