Azerbaijan, Baku, May 14 / Trend H.Valiyev /

Introducing Internet service provider (ISP) licensing will improve service quality, Azerbaijani Internet Community head Galib Gurbanov told Trend.

He said the lack of ISP regulation has flooded the market with non-professionals.

"Today, anyone can provide Internet services who has the minimum equipment," he said. "The lack of control on this market segment leads to the emergence of random and untrained providers who have neither the facilities, nor the security tools or specialists," Gurbanov said.

The Azerbaijani Internet Community is ready to take on responsibilities to control the AzNET segment to prevent the continuing emergence of amateur-level providers.

The ISP licensing procedure is not new and is used in many countries, Gurbanov said.

Azerbaijan, as a member of the international community, will not go against traditions that have worked well and are prevalent across the world.

The Azerbaijani Communications and the IT Ministry plan to develop procedures to license ISP, Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said earlier.

Abbasov added that ISP licensing is needed for two reasons - to protect the rights of Internet users and to minimize to security threats.
