Over 2,000 PCs were delivered to Azerbaijani educational institutions as of 2010, Ismayil Sadigov, Director of the Department of Education Management Information
Systems, told Trend.

He said that roughly 16 million manat was spent for school computerization last year. A significant sum was spent to connect 500 schools to the high-speed Internet and train teachers.

At present, according to the statistics from the Ministry of Education, one computer falls to 20 pupils in Azerbaijan except for primary school pupils. The main objective of the project is to create unified educational information sphere to improve the quality of education by using IT and the country's integration into the global system of education. This will effectively manage the education system in the country, as well as establish contact with institutions of foreign countries through the Internet.
