By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey is interested in deploying 4.5G technology all over the country, a source in the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications of Turkey told Trend.

4.5G technology ensures downlink data speeds of up to 700 Mbps, which means 10 times greater Internet speed on mobile devices.

Turkey started using the 4.5G technology in April 2016.

The source noted that 168 new base stations were built throughout Turkey in order to improve and expand the coverage of mobile connection in the country.

“A part of equipment for these new base stations was produced in Turkey,” the source said.

Currently, 1,800 Turkish settlements do not have mobile connection and fiber-optic communications as they are located in remote areas.

Turkey is also expanding its fiber-optic internet network.

Over the past year, the length of fiber-optic internet network in the country increased by 9.6 percent and amounted to 304,503 kilometers.

In 1H17, the number of internet users in Turkey increased by 20.1 percent compared to the same period of 2016.

In Turkey, 28.3 percent of internet users opt for fiber-optic network, the source noted.
