Uzbekistan has sent humanitarian aid to Tajikistan to help fight the coronavirus (COVID-19), Trend reports citing the National News Agency of Uzbekistan.

The humanitarian cargo included protective gear, goggles, liquid sodium hypochloride, respirators, gloves, pyrometers and flour products.

Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and foreign affairs, Uzbekistan Railways JSC and other agencies sent the cargo from Surkhandarya province to Dushanbe.

Uzbekistan also provided humanitarian assistance to Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, 2 April 2020.

Uzbekistan also provided humanitarian aid to China and Iran during the coronavirus pandemic.

The outbreak of the coronavirus began in the Chinese city of Wuhan (an international transport hub), at a fish market in late December 2019. The number of people killed by the disease has surpassed 88,000. Over 1.4 million people have been confirmed as infected. Meanwhile, over 329,000 people have reportedly recovered.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
