Cargo forwarding decreased at Georgian airports from January through March 2020, Trend reports citing United Airports of Georgia LLC.

In 1Q2020, the volume of goods transported by air amounted to 3.97 million tons, which is 1.43 million tons or 26 percent less compared to the same period last year, the report said.

In the reporting period, Wizz Air lowcost airline was the leader among the airlines operating in the Georgian aviation market.

In terms the number and percentage of passengers carried on scheduled flights, the top five airlines include Wizz Air - 170,759 passengers (24 percent); Turkish Airlines - 86,562 passengers (12 percent); Belavia Airlines - 6,858 passengers (6 percent); Georgian Airways - 38,262 passengers (5 percent); and Pegasus Airlines - 36,050 passengers (5 percent).

From January through February, the number of flights at Georgian airports decreased.

In turn, in March, the number of flights at Georgian airports increased by 8.2 percent.

From January through March 2020, 710,143 passengers were served at three international airports in Georgia, which is 30 percent less compared to the same period in 2019.

The reduction in the number of passengers was caused by the recession in the global air traffic caused by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.
