Uzbekistan Railways to commission elevated subway line

Uzbekistan Railways JSC plans to commission the Sergeli line of the Tashkent Metro in September 2020, Trend reports citing UzDaily News Agency.

"Uzbekistan Railways JSC is building Sergeli 7-km elevated railway line of the Tashkent Metro with the cost of $83 million. The task was set to put this line into operation in September this year," the report said.

The construction of the subway, the total length of which will be 52.1 kilometers, is carried out in five stages. In the first stage, eight stations will be built from the station Dustlik to the Kuilyuk market. It is also planned to build additional two metro depots. According to the plan, 35 metro stations will be built through the Yashnobod, Uchtepa, Olmazor, Yunusabad, Chilanzar and Sergeli districts.

Earlier, Uzbekistan planned to complete construction of the circular elevated line in Tashkent in 2021. Uzbekistan Railways announced about plans to purchase 10 new trains of Russia's Metrowagonmash production.

The total purchase price will exceed 27 million euros. Of these, 22 million euros will be allocated as a loan from the State Corporation "Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs" (Russia), and 5.5 million euros - from the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan.

Currently, Tashkent Metro consists of three lines, operating on 36.2 kilometres of route and serving 29 stations.
