Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bolat Akchulakov spoke about the measures to regulate digital mining at a governmental meeting, Trend reports with reference to the government.
“The purpose and the actual volume of electricity consumption will be checked upon the issued technical conditions of consumers as part of the instructions of the president to consider the contracts, on the basis of which technical conditions for digital miners were obtained,” Akchulakov added.
The minister added that in terms of regulation and development of digital mining, the following measures are offered:
the formation of a quota for the consumption of electricity by digital miners;
the purchase of electricity by digital miners at the centralized auctions at the price higher than the selling price;
an increase in the tariff on the electricity market for digital miners by differentiating among other consumers of electricity;
a ban on the power supply for digital miners in the retail electricity market;
the restriction in the consumption of electricity by digital miners with a negative balance of flow (deficit) from the Russian Federation;
a ban on combining digital mining with other types of business, including other computing services;
the creation of platforms for the digital miners;
the digital miners should consume electricity generated from renewable energy sources.
“These proposals will be worked out with interested individuals,” the minister said. “The ministry will take all necessary measures to fulfill the instructions of the president.”
