Three militants were killed and a fourth was detained in a police operation in eastern Tajikistan, the Tajik Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

"Three terrorists from the criminal armed group, led by Mullo Abdullo (Rakhimov) and Ali Bedaki (Alovuddin Davlatov) have been killed in a sweep operation in the Rasht district," Interfax news agency quoted the ministry as saying, Xinhua reported.

The operation has been going on in the eastern part of the Central Asian state since Oct. 22, the ministry said.

On Oct. 17, the ministry also reported the killing of three militants in the same district, who received training at Afghanistan.

On Oct. 6, a military Mi-8 chopper of the Tajik National Guards crashed in the same region, killing at least 27 people.

Police troops aboard the chopper were reported to be searching for insurgents in the region, who killed 28 Tajik National Guards servicemen in a military convoy attack on Sept. 19.

Twelve National Guards soldiers were wounded in the attack.
