Tashkent, Minsk hold next round of political consultations

Urgent issues on the Uzbek-Belarus agenda and cooperation within international and regional organisations have been considered during the Minsk regular ministerial consultations, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said today.

Both sides have exchanged views on a schedule of upcoming contacts at various levels. Diplomatic relations between the countries were established in January 1993.

The legal base of bilateral relations now includes about 20 interstate and intergovernmental agreements, 15 interagency agreements and eight other international documents.

Uzbekistan and Belarus have also signed an agreement on economic cooperation for 2008-2017 and the programme to this agreement, an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in combating crime, as well as an agreement between the Ministries of Emergency Situations.

According to the Uzbek State Statistics Committee, as of 2011, Belarus's trade turnover with Uzbekistan totalled $108 million and $101.7 million for the nine months of 2012.
Nitrogen and mineral fertilisers, cotton fibre and cars are mainly exported from Uzbekistan to Belarus.

The auto-tractor machinery, pharmaceuticals, food, wood and petrochemicals, electrical equipment are gas stoves make up the largest share in Belarusian exports to Uzbekistan.

In particular, several dozen BelAZ trucks operating at the Navoi and Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plants and other enterprises in Uzbekistan are annually supplied.

A wholly owned subsidiary of the Belarusian holding Amkodor - Amkodor Tashkent was established in Tashkent in early November.

It will represent the interests of the holding in Uzbekistan selling road construction, municipal and other special equipment of the enterprises of Amkodor holding, its spare parts and accessories.
