Irrigation and reclamation facilities in Uzbekistan’s Karakalpakstan to be restored

A project to restore irrigation and reclamation facilities in the Karakalpakstan Republic, Uzbekistan will be implemented in 2021-2023, Trend reports referring to Norma information and legal portal.

A resolution of the President "On urgent measures for the efficient use of water resources and improvement of the land reclamation condition in the Republic of Karakalpakstan" has been adopted.

According to the decree, it is planned to implement projects for the construction, reconstruction, and repair, as well as restoration of irrigation and reclamation facilities in the Karakalpakstan Republic with a total cost of 4.8 trillion soums ($464 million) at the expense of the budget of Uzbekistan.

The cost includes:

- 232 852.1 million soums ($225 million) for the construction and reconstruction of irrigation facilities;

- 115 652.0 million soums ($112 million) for construction and reconstruction of reclamation facilities;

- 131 876.0 million soums ($127 million) for systemic repair and restoration work of reclamation facilities.

In addition, it is provided to establish online control in 272 pumping stations over the use of electricity by means of digital technologies through the installation of electricity meters and water measuring devices, the total number of which is 818.

Also, 31 projects for the transfer of pumping stations and irrigation canals to the private sector based on the principles of public-private partnership will be implemented.
