Iranian scientists are about to conclude a study project on the rat, turtles and worms recently sent into space by Kavoshgar 3 (Explorer).

A capsule holding the animals traveled beyond the Earth's atmosphere and parachuted back to Earth, Iran's Space Agency announced.

"The living organisms were sent into space to observe the problems they would face when leaving the Earth's atmosphere," said Mohammad Rezaei, an Iranian aerospace expert, Press TV reported.

"The mission was carried out to investigate various biological processes and the effects microgravity and space flight might have on them," he told Mehr News Agency.

The Iranian aerospace expert said that the result of the studies will be announced by the end of this week.

In February 2009, Iran became the 6th country to send animals out of Earth's atmosphere, after the Soviet Union, the United States, France, China, and Japan.

In February 2008, Iran was the 11th country to have acquired space-related technology by blasting Kavoshgar 1 into space.

The second Kavoshgar, containing a space-lab and restoration system, was launched in November 2008.
