Iran is ready to participate in activities of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) organization, Nasrollah Jahangard, head of Iran's Information Technology Organization said.

The two sides can exchange information in various fields including replacing Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) with IPv6, Jahangard said, Iran's Fars news agency reported Nov. 17.

Jahangard made the remarks during a meeting with Baher Esmat, the ICANN vice president.

Iran is ready to host some of the ICANN activities in the region, the Iranian official said. He also suggested that the international organization to open a regional office in Tehran to cover the ICANN's programs.

ICANN is an internationally organized, non-profit corporation that has responsibility for Internet Protocol (IP) address space allocation, protocol identifier assignment, generic (gTLD) and country code (ccTLD) Top-Level Domain name system management, and root server system management functions.

These services were originally performed under a U.S. Government contract by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and other entities. ICANN now performs the IANA function.
