Iran’s crude steel output rises slightly

Over 2.884 million metric tons of crude steel was produced in Iran during the first two months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21- May 22), some 1,663 metric tons more compared to the same period of preceding year.

The country's crude steel production stood at 1.457 million metric tons in second Iranian calendar month of Ordibehesht (April 21-May 22), Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said June 17.

The figure indicates an increase by 2 percent compared to the same month of last year.

A major raw steel producer of Iran, Mobarakeh Steel Company shared 36 percent of Iran 's total crude steel production during the period, followed by the Khuzestan Steel Company with 20 percent and the Isfahan Foundry with 14 percent of total output.

Iranian companies also produced 2.687 million metric tons of steel products during the 2-month period. The Iranian administration plans to produce 18 million metric tons of crude steel by the end of current fiscal year (March 2016).


Over 16.805 million metric tons of crude steel was produced in Iran during the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 20), 7.4 percent more compared to the preceding year.


The Islamic Republic's crude steel output reached 16.33 million metric tons in 2014, which made the country 14th major crude steel producer in the world.

Iran's crude steel production amounted for 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.
