Iran will inaugurate the phases 15 and 16 of South Pars gas field next week, Iranian Mehr News Agency reported.

Some 50 million cubic meters of natural gas per day (mcm/d) would be added to production level after inauguration of mentioned fields, the agency said.

Iran started early gas production from these fields in late 2014 and currently some 20 mcm/d of gas is extracted from these phases.

Currently, four gas refineries are active in these two fields, which are able to produce 40 mcm/d of sweet gas.

Since March 2015, Iran produced 110 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas, which indicates 5 bcm growth year-to-year.

The country's total enriched gas production stood at 202 bcm last year.

Iran also planning to develop phases 17, 18, 19 and 20 of South Pars, aimed to add 100 mcm/d gas to production capacity (including phase 15 and 16).

Iran plans to increase gas production level from South Pars to 750 mcm/d by 2018. The country's gas output is expected to reach about 1,000 mcm/d in the next two years.
