Iran added 160 megawatts (MW) capacity to its power generation by commencing the third unit of a 480-MW hydroelectric station, IRNA reported on March 10.
Seimare hydroelectric station's two 160-MW units became operational in summer.
According to the latest weekly report of Energy Ministry, the country's total power generation capacity increased by 609 MW to 73,761 MW during current fiscal year, started on March 21, 2015.
Therefore, currently, Iran's power generation capacity reached 73,921 MW by full commencing the Seimare hydroelectric station.
Iran has planned to increase power generation capacity to 100,000 MW by 2021.
The country generated above 266 billion kilowatt-hour (kWh) electricity energy during 343 days of current fiscal year and consumed 196.670 billion kWh.
