Over 11.451 million tons of crude steel were produced in Iran during the first eight months of 2016, the World Steel Association said in its latest monthly report.
The figure indicates an increase by 5.1 percent compared to the same period of 2015 (10.894 million tons).
About 1.35 million tons of crude steel was produced in Iran in Aug. 2016, or 8.1 percent more year-on-year.
Iran was the world’s 14th biggest producer of steel in the 8-month period. The country also ranked first among the Middle East countries.
World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 1.065 billion tons in eight months, a 0.9 percent decrease compared to the same months of 2015.
The 66 countries included in the World Steel Association statistics accounted for approximately 99 percent of total world crude steel production in 2015.
China was the biggest crude steel producer in the world in the first eight months of 2016 with about 536.32 million tons of production, followed by Japan (69.944 million tons), India (63.21 million tons), the US (53.455 million tons), Russia (47.031 million tons) and South Korea (45.236 million tons).
World crude steel production was 134.125 million tons in Aug. 2016, a 1.9 percent increase compared to Aug. 2015.
The Islamic Republic’s steel output throughout 2015 is estimated to have hit 16.11 million tons. This in its own turn shows a decline of 1.4 percent year-on-year.
Iran also produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014.
The country’s crude steel production reached 15.421 million tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.
