Iran improves cement export performance

Iran’s cement export registered a small growth during the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 20-June 21), according to the Islamic Republic’s Customs Administration data.

The country exported 3.636 million tons of cement, worth $124.3 million in the 3-month period.

Iran’s cement export witnessed a 4.6 percent growth in terms of volume and 9.6 percent in terms of value, year-on-year.

The exports include 1.684 tons of clinker, worth $47.64 million.

Kuwait was the top destination of Iran’s cement exports. The Islamic Republic exported $27 million worth of cement to Kuwait, $20 million worth to Iraq and Afghanistan each, and $15 million worth to Bangladesh.

In Total, Iran exported cement to 27 countries across the world in the first three months of the current fiscal year.

Iran’s cement output amounted to 54.72 million tons during the last fiscal year, ended March 20, 1.5 percent less, year-on-year.

Iran's cement sector, is suffering various problems including deep recession in construction activities and an inadequate provision of natural gas to industrial users, as well as a considerable export fall due to some regional issues, which has resulted in losing markets such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iranian cement producers supplied over 49 million tons of cement to domestic market in last fiscal year, which is 3 percent more compared to the preceding year.

The Islamic Republic exported six million tons of cement and 5.8 million tons of clinker in the 12-month period, 9 percent less year-on-year.

Cement production capacity of Iran soared from 29.5 million tons in 2001 to 83 million tons in 2017. The number of cement producing factories also increased from 30 to 72 in the same time span.
