Iran automotive exports on rise

An official with Trade Promotion Organization of Iran said during the first four months of the current fiscal which started on March 21, Iran exported cars, railway and aviation products and auto parts with the total value of $196 million.

Amir Nani added that the automotive exports marked a 571 percent and 80 percent growth in terms of value and tonnage compared to the same corresponding period last year, the official website of TPO reported recently.

He further said Iranian manufacturers active in sectors of railway, aviation and maritime industries are leading the way, selling over 4,000 tons of goods overseas with the total value of $161 million.

The industries are followed by auto parts with $28 million in takings, showing a 40 percent rise compared to the same period last year, Nani further said, noting auto parts worth $20 million were exported to Iraq only.

According to the latest statistics released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, the main target market for Iranian vehicles and auto parts is Iraq.

Iraq is followed by Afghanistan with a total value of such exports at $9.9 million. The third largest market for the export of these commodities is Russia. The total value of goods exported to the country stands at $2.6 million.

Iran’s largest automaker, Iran Khodro, is set to expand its presence in the Iraqi market. However, the government in Baghdad has set import tariffs for vehicles at 8-10 percent and for auto parts at 15 percent.
