Digital economy in Iran is expected to share 10 percent of country's total economy in 2025, said General Director of Economic Studies Department at the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT) Niloofar Moradhasel, Trend reports via IRNA.

"Digital economy is currently estimated to share 6.5 percent of country's economy and expected to improve by 2025 due to diverse fields of activities in digital services," said Moradhasel.

"So far the Ministry of Information Communication Technology (ICT) has suggested three periods of plans for economic accounting. The share of digital economy in the country's economy during last Iranian year (started March 21,2019) was 4.2 percent," she said.

"The changes in value added growth of total economy and value added in ICT section did not have a direct relation in recent years and in 2017 the ICT had a 31.3-percent economic growth, while the country's total economy had a negative growth of -4.8 percent," she said.

"Digital economy has started to grow by expanding online businesses. By development of communication infrastructures in past three years and access to G3 and G4 technologies, wider bandwidth in national information network created possibility of digital economic growth," she said.
