Iran Grid Management Company could evaluate the situation in a way that in case the country's power network collapses, it could immediately cut the electricity and it does not relate to a full power outage, said Energy Ministry's Spokesman for Electricity Industry.

"Network blackout means that all networks are without power and it would take one to two weeks to connect network together," Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi told Trend in an interview.

"Blackout occurs in power networks around the world every 10 to 12 years, it happens in our neighbor countries and some European and American countries, Iran power network has not faced blackout for 18 years due to competent engineering," he noted.

"The occurring power cut in Iran is not networking collapse but power outage is planned due to lack of power production. Due to low rainfall, hydroelectric power plants are generating electricity with minimum capacity, and there is the 10,000-megawatt gap between production and power consumption in the country, therefore the government would compensate it by the power outage," Mashhadi added.

"Iran imports 150-megawatt electricity from Azerbaijan that is ongoing well, the electricity is also being imported from Turkmenistan. Iran's electricity import volume has doubled in current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021) compared to last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020)," he said.

The widespread blackout started in Tehran and other cities on Saturday night that continues in recent days.
