Iran increases power production capacity - Plan and Budget Organization

TEHRAN, Iran, July 7

Trend:

Iran's power production capacity has increased during the past 8 years and 20,000 megawatts added to the country's production capacity, said the head of the Plan and Budget Organization.

The data indicate the power production capacity has increased during the government's ruling terms in the past eight years based on the Sixth Development Plan (2016-2021) while several power plants were inaugurated, said Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The government has paid $5 billion for debts of the power industry since the power production costs are more than power supply prices offered to the consumer from 2018 to 2020.

The Organization of Targeted Subsidies has returned $2.3 billion from the increase of electricity price during the past three years so the industry could do the necessary investments.

The government has operated Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant in Qeshm, Dalahou, Ferdousi, Shirvan, Hengam, Caspian, Sabalan, Khoram Abad, Jahrom, Arian, Zarand, Asalouyeh, and Urmia that added 3,846-megawatt electricity to the country's power production capacity.

"There is currently no balance between supply and demand therefore people face power outage however the government has invested in new power plants in recent years," he noted.
