TEHRAN, Iran, July 26

Trend:

The Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Anzali Free Zone Organization announced the 85 percent progress of the Rasht-Caspian port railway construction project.

The connection of the railway from Qazvin to Astara and Anzali and to the Caspian port was among the people's longstanding requests, Ali Ausat Akbari Moghaddam said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Akbari Moghaddam said that currently, the north-south railway project has 85 percent physical progress.

He said that this railway can connect the south of the country to the north, noting large capacity in the Caspian Sea.

Regarding the effects of the corridor on commercial exchanges, Akbari Moghaddam said if these railways are put into operation, we will have a large capacity in exchanging goods from south to north.

“The capacity of the Caspian Sea is limited due to economic sanctions,” he said. "Considering the potential of the Chabahar port and the ports of the Persian Gulf, the North-South corridor will definitely increase the transit of goods to Caspian Basin."
