Last week an annual labor fair took place in Baku from 6-7 December. Held traditionally by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Azerbaijan, the fairs start in the regions and complete in the capital. Thus, since May the Ministry of Labor held fairs in 54 cities and regions of Azerbaijan, including Nakchivan Autonomous Republic. Nearly 6.000 people were employed during this period.

The event is Baku was attended by both State and private organizations which offered nearly 7,000 vacancies, with 5039 belonging to the private sector. Job seekers had an opportunity to become familiarized with the activities of employers through presented stands and booklets, as well as their representatives. In addition, the consultants of the Head Employment Department of the Labor Ministry assisted the citizens in filling up CVs, as well as held questioning, psychological talks to determine the job seekers.

The review of the organizations represented in the fairs showed that today the Azerbaijani economy has demand for both high-qualified workforce and specialists on high technologies and management. The top 10 of the most required specialties includes construction, IT, mechanics, trade and marketing, metallurgy, chemical industry, electronics. In addition, demand is growing for the specialists in the spheres of re-processing industry, machine-building, medicine, logistics and teaching. Moreover, the employers are actively co-operating with the higher education schools and invite the talented students to job with further work experience abroad.

Solid part of the employers was the State enterprises and banking structures. Thus, the State organizations sought specialists with regards to petrochemistry, geo-physics, etc. Meanwhile the banks mainly required specialists on credit operations. Standard job criteria like English knowledge, computer skills, work experience were presented. In addition, the drivers of D and E categories and mechanicians, constructors were in great demand.

Being familiarized with the offered jobs, the young people were interested in the wage and working conditions as well.

The efficiency of the labor fair will be clear after concluding results which are currently being accounted. The initial assessments seem to be as: 3450 people got jobs, 162 people were sent to training and improvement courses and 103 people to labor exchange.
