Prices and situation in consumer market in azerbaijan (January-August 2010)

In January-August 2010, a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 8.8%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised AZN 11298.0mln. In particular, 71.5% accounted for retail trade, 28.5% - paid services.

In January-August 2010 trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 8452.2 million manat, which is 8.3% more than 2009. Legal entities provided 14.0% of turnover, fairs and markets - 41.4%, individual entrepreneurs - 43.9%.

In January-August 2010, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 158.0 manat that is 12.9 percent higher than 2009. 

In January-August 2010 commercial services to population made up 2845.8 million manat, or up 10.2 percent. Individual entrepreneurs provided 71.8% of services, legal entities - 28.2%, with growth of 10.6% and 9.3% respectively.

Prices

In January-August, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services rose 0.7 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to January-August 2009 grew by 5.0 percent (data from State Statistics Committee).

The prices for food products in August rose 1.0 percent compared to July, non-food products rose 0.2 percent, and tariffs for service rose 0.2%. 

Compared with January-August 2009, food prices grew by 5.3 percent, non-food products - 1.9 percent, and tariffs for the service sector - 6.5 percent.

In August 2010, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government rose by 0.8% as compared to the previous month, and 2.7% to 2009.    

As compared to the previous month, in August 2010 the index of industrial goods price increased 0.1%, but rose 43.1% compared to the same period of the last year.

The price in oil and gas production decreased 0.6% in August compared to previous month, but rose 54.4% in January-August compared to the same period of 2009.

The prices in refining chemical products increased 0.3% in the month and growth totaled 10.4% at annualized pace.  

In August, the prices in metallurgy increased 5.3 percent compared to the previous month, but rose 28.5% at annualized pace. The prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged compared to previous month, and during the year.
