Tbilisi City Court decided to release on bail former governor of the Mtskheta-Tianeti region Caesar Chocheli. The court made the decision to reject the prosecutor's petition of the holding Chocheli under arrest till trial.
Court stated that evidence was already given against Chocheli and he will not affect the witness.
Protection apply for release of ex-governor on bail of 100 000 lari ($ 1 = 1.67 lari), but the court has doubled the amount. Chocheli will be released from prison only after the payment of 200,000 GEL.
The ex-governor was arrested by the financial police of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia on Thursday. He is accused of money laundering and illegal business activities.
He faces a prison sentence of 9 to 12 years in the case of confirmation of charges in court.
Chocheli has resigned from his post as governor month ago.
