A modern illegal migrants placement centre will be created in June 2014, a candidate for Georgia's prime minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Nov.20 in the parliament.

"A migration service will begin to operate in Georgia's Interior Ministry which is an innovation that will be responsible for revealing of illegal migrants and their expulsion from the country. A modern centre for temporary placement of illegal migrants will be built and commissioned in June 2014. The European standards for human rights will be followed, the rights of the convicted and the charged will be protected in this centre," Garibashvili said.

According to Garibashvili, residential areas, diet, health programs, sanitary conditions and treatment of prisoners in penitentiary system will also be maximally brought close to European standards.

"There will be opened temporary detention isolators of modern type, the old isolators will be rehabilitated and provided with modern material and technical base, special attention will be paid to preventive measures, including higher standards of living in fighting against organized crime. One of the priorities will be the reduction of illegal drug trafficking, strengthening the fight against trafficking," Garibashvili said.

Alternative institutions for freedom restriction will begin to operate from 2014 as part of liberalization of criminal policy.

"Alongside with the employment of prisoners, their rehabilitation, re-socialization and vocational training will also be a priority in imprisonment places. Religious and ethnic rights of prisoners will be protected," Garibashvili said.
