By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:
International Monetary Fund (IMF) had good discussions with Georgian counterparts about the Fund’s new three-year program for the country, the IMF Resident Representative for Georgia Selim Cakir told Trend.
According to the Resident Representative, talks on the launch of the program are still ongoing, and the launch date is still unknown.
Meanwhile, IMF already met with several representatives of the Georgian Government, such as the former Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Budget of Georgia Irakli Kovzanadze last year.
The sides discussed the main directions of the program, as well as the issues of macroeconomic and monetary stability of the country, the main parameters of the 2022 state budget, inflation, and the situation in the financial-banking sector.
At this stage, Georgia believes that IMF’s support for the country is essential in terms of advice and recommendations in carrying out reforms, and hopes that, after the IMF’s program renewal, the joint cooperation will become even more active.
