Three people, including two French tourists, died in a road accident on Sunday in the third accident over the past week claiming a total of five lives in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, dpa reported.

Security sources said two French tourists and one Egyptian were killed in a car accident on the way to the Red Sea resort of Nuweiba, located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula.

On Saturday night, a 27-year old Italian woman died shortly after a bus overturned on a main road in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el- Sheikh.

Two German tourists, one Italian and a Japanese, were injured along with the Egyptian driver in that accident.

Last week, a German woman died in a car accident in the north of the Sinai Peninsula. Her husband and child were injured and taken to hospital.

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt because of poor road conditions, weak enforcement of safety regulations and reckless driving.

Some 8,000 people die and 32,000 are injured on Egypt's roads each year, according to official estimates.
